Saturday, October 17, 2009, 9am – vMeet with Johnson County Heritage Trust
• 10K’s FIRST vMeet of the year!
• Transportation will be provided, so if you would like a ride, please meet at the south doors of the IMU no later that 8:15am.
• Please RSVP to npstaff1@10000hoursei.org if you plan to attend
• The main activity of the day will be fence and gate installation at Belgum Grove. If time permits and there are enough volunteers we will also clear the under story of the oak stand as well.
• Belgum Grove is a 40 acre tract of land owned by Johnson County Heritage Trust, located northwest of Hills, IA
• Please dress appropriately for the event – closed-toe shoes, pants, long sleeves, etc

Saturday, October 17, 2009 and Sunday, October 18, 2009 – Run for the Schools Road Race
• Get 10K credit by helping the Iowa City Community School District Foundation (ICCSD) with their annual event!
• Volunteers are needed to register participants, set up the race course, man water stations, work the finish line, direct traffic on the course, and tear down the event.
• The race occurs on Sunday but there are many things that need to be done on Saturday
• Saturday duties:
o Registration and race packet pickup at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center on Gilbert and Burlington – 9am – 5pm
• Sunday duties:
o Registration and race packet pickup at the Robert A. Lee Recreation Center from 6:30am – 9am
o Race events begin at 8am
o Event clean up will begin around noon

Saturday, October 24, 2009 – Make A Difference Day, Iowa Riverbank Cleanup
• Counts for 10K credit
• Sponsored by 10K and CEP, part of Saturdays in Service
• Event runs for 1pm – 4pm
• Volunteers will work along the Iowa River in Terrell Mill Park near the new boathouse located across from Mayflower residence hall
o Accessible by cambus
• No training requirement
• Volunteers MUST wear closed-toed shoes (no sandals) and should wear pants and shirts with sleeves that can be rolled down
4-H Program looking for volunteers for their Pizza Club and Science Club
• Need volunteers to work with each club
• 21 years of age and older
• Like to work with youth (grades 4-12th grade)
• Volunteers would typically meet monthly with the groups – with their assignment ending usually in June.
• Volunteers would need to complete background screening, attend orientation.
STARS, the after school program at Johnson School is in need of volunteers
• Need volunteers, especially males, to work with youth 1-5th grade
• Volunteers are needed either from 7:30-8:30am (before school) or 3:30-6:30pm (after school) Monday – Friday
• Volunteers support academics as well as recreation activities with youth
• All volunteers complete school required screening and attend orientation session
• Volunteers for STARS need to be at least 18 years of age and older
Jaycee’s Field of Screams!
• October 16th, 17th, 24th, 30th and 31st
• From 6pm to midnight
• We are looking for 25 to 30 people each night.
• Rides will be provided to the Field.
• We are looking for people to come out and have fun scaring people!
