NEWS

President Obama has made September 11th a National Day of Service and Remembrance!  Here is a great chance to take pride in America.  Check out serve.gov or volunteersolutions.org/uwjc to find opportunities to get involved.

“No force for change is more powerful than that of Americans who are making a difference in their communities. This September 11th, and in the days, weeks and months that follow, let us recommit ourselves to service, renew America’s promise and work together as one people and one nation.”
--President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama

vFair Recap

The volunteer fair went off the heezy with over 1,100 people showing up and 80 nonprofits promoting their missions.  We ran out of t-shirts, maps, and cookies but that's a great problem to have.  The Main Lounge of the IMU was packed with people showing love to Iowa City, Coralville and Cedar Rapids.  Be sure to check the next one out in the spring.

Iowa Children’s Museum
Move It! Dig It! Do It!

THIS SUNDAY
Move it! Dig it! Do it! is hosted by The Iowa Children's Museum and is located at the Johnson Country Fairgrounds. This special event offers families the unique opportunity to get an up-close look at large construction machinery, farming equipment, and other vehicles to learn how they have changed the way we live. This year's event will be bigger and better than ever, with a hot air balloon, helicopter landing, plane fly-by, and more! Attendance is expected to reach 3,000 people! To make the event a great success we need lots of volunteers to help facilitate children's activities such as backhoe bingo, parachute drop, and making garden stones! Also, plenty of volunteers will be needed to assist kids while they climb on and explore all the large vehicles. Volunteering will be done in shifts throughout the day. This is a great event for larger groups or individuals!

Shifts are this Sunday:
10:30am – 1:00pm
12:30pm – 3:30pm
3:00pm – 5:30pm
NEED 175 VOLUNTEERS!

FEATURED NONPROFIT: Table to Table

Check out their website for more info

The mission of Table to Table is to gather donations from food providers and channel them to shelters, soup kitchens, and agencies that serve the hungry, Homeless, and at-risk populations in the greater Iowa City/Coralville area.

Description:
Table to Table is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit status organization. We recover fresh, frozen and prepared food donated from local sources such as restaurants, grocery stores, bakeries, schools and businesses.

The donated food is delivered to community social service agencies and low-income housing sites.

Table to Table is the only food rescue organization in the state of Iowa at this time and is one of only several hundred nation-wide. We specialize in "rapid response" retrieval of fresh and perishable foods; we pick up and deliver the donated food items to recipient agencies in the same day.
