Please dress appropriately (gloves, boots/work shoes). Bring equipment if you have it available. Equipment that would come in handy would include: shovel, garden rake, brush loppers and handsaws.

Belgum Grove is a 40-acre tract owned by the Johnson County Heritage Trust. It is located one mile north and four miles west of Hills, IA on 500th Street (County Road F-62). Belgum Grove is being renovated. Pond and wetland areas are being installed. Prairie is being re-constructed. A remnant oak community is being restored.
If the parking area installation goes quicker than planned or if more volunteers are available than needed, a crew can be put to work doing understory removal in the oak stand. This will involve cutting of trees, stump treating and brush removal. Brush will be place into burn piles. Another potential of activity may be making of seed balls. This involves blending powdered clay with seeds of wetland plants. The seedballs will be inserted into the shoreline of the new wetland and pond at a later date, where volunteers will be invited back to participate.
