Agency Spotlight: The Kirkwood Elementary Family Resource Center

The Kirkwood Elementary Family Resource Center's mission is to improve the quality of life for the families of Kirkwood Elementary and to promote increased student achievement and remove barriers to learning by supporting families, students and staff.

Description:
Kirkwood Family Resource Center works to remove barriers to learning for the students in our school. These barriers range from parents not having stable employment or housing to a child with a a mental health disorder. We work with families, students and staff to support the students and families of the school in increasing a student's achievement. Our programming includes home visitation, agency referrals, transportation, after-school programming, family nights at the school, provision of school supplies, and other family support.

History:
Kirkwood Family Resource Center began as the Coralville Family Resource Center in October of 2004. With locations at Kirkwood Elementary and Coralville Central Elementary, the center worked to support families and students and both schools. In 2008, the schools separated the Resource Center into two centers, creating the Kirkwood Family Resource Center. We now operate to solely serve the families of Kirkwood Elementary while continuing to partner with Coralville Central Elementary in providing programming to the Coralville Community.
