Volunteer F.A.Q.
Q: How do I get my ticket?
A: Approximately 2-3 weeks prior to the show 10K will send an e-mail to the e-mail address you provided with further directions. Typically you can pick your ticket up at the IMU during designated times or at will-call during the show.If you have any questions about ticketing, please contact operations@10000hoursei.org.
Q: So do I only have to volunteer 10 hours?
A: You must volunteer whatever the organization requires. 10 hours is the minimum set by The 10,000 Hours show, but if an organization requires a longer commitment, you must fulfill the organization's requirements in order to receive your concert ticket. We also encourage involvement beyond the minimum required for a concert ticket. Check out our Volunteer Incentive Program for extra reasons to volunteer more in Eastern Iowa!
Q: I volunteer for an organization that is not listed on your local volunteer center website, what do I do?
A: Ask the volunteer coordinator for that organization to register as an agency on our partner database. A majority of nonprofit organizations will qualify; they just have to be registered on the website for record-keeping purposes.
Q: I volunteer with my Greek chapter / student organization, does that count?
A: Volunteer work must be done for 10K-eligible agencies who have signed up on our partner database (see previous question for assistance). Volunteer hours must be verified online by the organization's volunteer coordinator. So, if the volunteer work your house does fits the above criteria (e.g. ABC Sorority volunteers with Habitat for Humanity), you're good to go. If your volunteer event is community-focused, it may be eligible for 3 hours (maximum) of 10K credit. For more information about this policy, click here.
Q: When is the last day to start volunteering?
A: You must have all your hours verified and completed before you pick up your concert ticket - no exceptions. In order to accomplish this, we recommend that people have all of their volunteer hours completed 2-3 weeks before the concert date to allow nonprofits to verify your hours online. Check our website and your inbox routinely closer to the concert date for more specific hour submission deadlines.
Q: What happens if I don't complete my volunteer hours?
A: You will have had a cool volunteering experience but will miss out on a sweet show. The only way you can attend The 10,000 Hours Show concert is by completing at least 10 hours of volunteer service at a 10K-eligible community organization.
Q: How do my volunteer hours get verified?
A: It's very simple and easy! Here are the steps:
- Login to your volunteer account
- Under the "Your Hours" section on the right-hand side, click "Log Hours"
- Search for the agency/volunteer opportunity you were involved with
- Enter the date(s) and # of hours you volunteered
- When you're finished, click "Okay"
- The organization must then verify those hours online. Contacting those agencies by phone or email is a great way to ensure your hours are verified in a timely manner, but be patient if the process takes longer than expected.
Q: Can I recognize volunteers for a University (non-10K agency) event with 10K credit?
A: In certain cases, 10K can approve these events for a maximum of three hours per event, per volunteer. If you have an event that qualifies, please fill out our online form at least two weeks before the event. We will contact you shortly afterwards as to the status of your application. It is not guaranteed that your event will be granted hours. Final policy decisions lie with the 10K Board of Directors and 10K advisors.
